CAPTCHA’s are bad ‘mkay! But worse than CAPTCHA’s, are anti-spam tools which block humans without even giving them a chance to prove otherwise. This is a problem with most anti-spam plugins for WordPress, including my own Spam Destroyer plugin.

To work around this, I have implemented a fallback for when comments are detected as spam. If a spammer is detected, then the bot/user is forced to answer a CAPTCHA. If they fail the CAPTCHA, the comment is marked as spam, otherwise it’s left to whizz on through to the regular comments queue 🙂
