Plugin reviews
Published August 3rd, 2015 under Plugins
To encourage WordPress plugin users to review my plugins on WordPress.org, I decided I should prompt users to review them. Thankfully Rhys Wynne created a handy set of code which I adapted and turned into a class for just that.
Please check it out if you think it might be useful in your own plugins.

Hello Ryan,
Good idea to show such a message but there are a few issues I think with such approach:
1. 1 week is a bit short. It all depends on the type of plugin but for some, one needs more time to analyze. Having said that you do not want to leave a lot of time as people forget what they installed.
2. Nowadays there are too many plugins showing such notifications so users are starting to ignore them.
The thing I found worked best for my plugin is to ask the user each time I solve a support case. So user had a problem, I solve it, user happy, ask for review. It works quite well 🙂

My best plugins never generate support requests, so that wouldn’t work 😉
If not one week, what sort of time frame would you suggest?
I agree with the issue of users just clicking to get rid of messages in the admin panel, but I think some people will still read them, particularly if it’s for a plugin that’s normally normally bothering them. Or at least, that’s the theory 😉

How about a bribe? Free upgrade or something else of value.

That could work, but you’d need something of value to offer first. I don’t have that.
