Dot Kiwi is born

I was squirreling away into the small hours this morning launching a complete rejig of my domain names. This website will henceforth be known as geek.hellyer.kiwi 🙂 Along with the new domain name, I also have a fancy pants https setup too.
It took me a long time to decide what to do with my new dot Kiwi domain. Thankfully a bunch of you were very helpful in working out a plan earlier this year. Then it took me most of the year to get around to implementing it, and you can see the result here. I’m very pleased with the result. I never liked my original ryanhellyer.net domain, it was only ever a stop-gap until I could find something better. Five years later, and I finally found the domain name I wanted, w00t 🙂
Here is an incomplete list of what’s happened to my other websites:
- http://ryan.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://ryan.hellyer.kiwi/
- http://random.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://random.hellyer.kiwi/
- http://tweets.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://tweets.hellyer.kiwi/
- http://facebook.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://facebook.hellyer.kiwi/
- http://nb.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://nb.hellyer.kiwi/
- http://de.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://de.hellyer.kiwi/
- http://ice.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://ice.hellyer.kiwi/
- http://forum.ryanhellyer.net/ -> https://forum.hellyer.kiwi/
For some of you server nerds, here are some stats on my new server setup:
- Ubuntu 14.04
- HHVM with PHP-FPM fallback
- Maria DB
- Reddis object cache backend
- Nginx, with 30 second microcache (varies depending on the site)
- WordPress multisite, with mapped domains
