Spam Destroyer update
Published March 6th, 2013 under Plugins
It was brought to my attention that the Spam Destroyer plugin really ought to have a system for reporting when a comment is marked as spam, as otherwise a legit commenter will never be alerted that they have popped up as a false positive. As a solution to this, I’ve now added a simple error message for whenever a comment is marked as spam, which appears in the comments section for the spammer. In theory this should not be necessary, but you never can tell what will happen out there on the world wide web, and so this is to be on the safe-side to at least let legit commenters know that they should get in touch with the site owner so that they know real commenters are failing.
Future updates will hopefully include a simple CAPTCHA system for those without Javascript. If you have any preferred means for implementing CAPTCHA’s, then please let me know in the comments below (so long as you don’t get picked up as spam :P). The system will be hookable, so you will be able to add new ones if you like, but a basic system will be available by default.
For the geekier amongst you, I’ve also instantiated the class into a variable so that you can remove action hooks and filters if needed. This plugin is being used by some people in ways I had not originally intended, hence I hadn’t thought to do this in the original version.
